FAQ's

Q. How often should I have my appliances serviced?

A. All  manufacturers  recommend  that  gas  appliances  are  serviced  on  an  annual  basis.  It  is  important  to  point out that a safety check is not the same as a service when you are comparing offers. Ask for more information.

Q. What sort of guarantee will I receive?

A.  All  manufacturers  offer  a  12  month parts and labour guarantee.  Some offer up to 15 years sugject to conditions. Ask for details.

Q. I want a new focal point, but don't know what I want, where do I start?

A.  Basic  decisions  would  be  gas  or  electric?  Do  you  want  a  fireplace  or  not?  If  you  want  a  fireplace,  your next decision  would  be:  Marble,  Stone  or  Timber? At  Select Appliances  we  have  a  large  showroom  with  a wide  range of gas and electric fires and surrounds in all materials - please come in and have a look.

Q. Should I choose a gas or electric fire?

A.  A  gas  fire  can  give  you  a  greater  heat  output,  which  may  be  important,  if  this  is  your  only  form  of heating. However,  you  only  see  the  flames  when  the  fire  is  on.  An  electric  fire  will  generally  only  give  a maximum  heat output  of  2kw,  but  you  can  have  flames  without  heat.  We  have  a  wide  range  of  gas  and electric  fires  on  display for you to see.

Q. Can I have a gas fire if I don't have a chimney or flue?

A.  If  you  don't  have  a  chimney  or  flue,  you  may  be  able  to  have  a  balanced  flue,  powerflue  or  flueless  gas fire depending on your situation. Please ask us for information.

Q. I would like a gas fire, but don't want coals?

A. No problem as many gas fires are now available with coal or pebble options, some have driftwood or logs.

Q. How do I know that what I have chosen will be suitable?

A.  Our  fully-trained  staff  can  offer  expert  advice  in  our  showroom,  based  on  your  individual  needs.  However, on occasions it may be necessary for someone to do a home visit; this can be arranged at the time of order.

Q. How long does it take from point of order to when it will be fitted?

A.  This  depends  on  the  manufacturer,  fires  on  average  take  5  to  7  days,  fireplaces  from  2  to  6  weeks  with an average  delivery  of  3  weeks.  It  may  take  longer  for  anything  that  is  tailor  made.  Generally  all  orders  are placed  at the  time  of  sales  so  that  you  can  leave  knowing  that  you  have  an  installation  date  all  sorted  out  in advance. Where this is not the case we will endeavour to let you know as soon as possible.

Q. Who will do the installation work?

A.  We  have  our  own  fully-qualified  Gas  Safe  registered  installers,  they  only  work  for  us  and  only  install  our range of  products.  They  will  bring  along  everything  to  do  the  job. All  our  installation  work  is  notified  to  Gas Safe  and  in due course you will receive a certificate for inclusion in your Home Information Pack.

Q. What sort of after-sales service do you offer?

A. You will be given information on caring for your new fireplace to ensure that it stays in pristine condition.

We are available Mondays to Saturdays to answer any queries you may have regarding your new purchase.

We  can  arrange  to  service  your  appliances  annually,  just  let  us  know  at  the  time  of  your  purchase.  In  the unlikely event  that  you  need  a  warranty  call  out,  please  contact  us  and  we  can  make  all  the  necessary arrangements.
